Tour Preparation for 4×4 Green Lane and Overlanding

1. Vehicle Requirements

Before joining a 4x4 green lane or overland tour, you must ensure your vehicle is roadworthy, safe, and suitable for the terrain. This includes:

  • A valid MOT certificate and up-to-date insurance

  • Fully operational lights and windscreen wipers

  • Windscreen washer fluid topped up

  • Legal tread depth and correct pressure for all tyres, including the spare

  • Engine oil and coolant levels checked and sufficient

  • Functional four-wheel drive system, low range gears, and diff locks (if fitted)

  • SUV-style or 'soft-roader' vehicles are not suitable for these tours

  • All-terrain tyres are required as a minimum

2. Mechanical Familiarity

You must be familiar with your vehicle’s controls. Ensure you can:

  • Engage four-wheel drive and low range

  • Operate diff locks where applicable

  • Identify any vehicle-specific limitations before attending

These systems can seize if not used regularly—please test them in advance.

3. Pre-Tour Preparation Checklist

To ensure the tour runs smoothly and safely, please:

  • Arrive at the designated meeting point at least 30 minutes before the start time

  • Ensure your fuel tank is full on arrival

  • Bring sufficient food and drink for the day

  • Wear waterproof footwear, coats, and warm clothing suitable for variable outdoor conditions

  • Carry recovery equipment if available (e.g., tow rope)

  • Be prepared for your vehicle to get muddy – carry water and a cloth to clean number plates and lights

4. Tour Schedule

  • Tours typically start at 10:00 AM and conclude around 4:30 PM

  • Driver briefing takes place before departure – attendance is mandatory

5. Responsibility and Safety

It is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle meets the above requirements before arriving. Failure to comply may result in refusal to join the tour for safety reasons.
The Lane Ranger UK is not liable for vehicle failures due to poor maintenance or lack of preparation.
By attending the tour, you agree to these preparation terms as part of the wider Terms & Conditions.
